A few days ago, the association’s representative Oskars visited Smiltene, where together with Valmiera Velomeistars and passionate cycling enthusiast Māris Pētersons, he met with Dainis Ozols, bronze medalist in the road race at the 1992 Olympic Games, as well as Armands and Everits Akmentiņš.
Dainis supports the initiative of the Cycling Sports Association “Latvello” and therefore contributed many interesting photographs for the creation of digital copies. These images were taken during training sessions and competitions, as well as at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona.
From Armands (the son of Jānis Akmentiņš), we also received as a donation wooden traveling trophies that were awarded at the cycling competitions “Smiltene Cup”. The donation further included several medals, badges, commemorative medallions, as well as approximately 150 pennant flags (mostly bearing the emblem of the Sports Society “Vārpa”). The reverse side of the pennants indicates the dates and names of the competitions.
In addition, we received approximately 250 photographs as a donation — taken between 1965 and 2000.
Members of the Cycling Sports Association “Latvello” would like to express their gratitude for the support provided by these cycling enthusiasts and supporters.
We have already received invitations from other cycling enthusiasts and supporters living in the Valmiera and Smiltene regions. In the near future, representatives of the association will certainly visit them as well.
