“Athlete’s Diary”

To provide a brief insight into the project being developed by the RSB “Latvello” team, we have decided to create a new section titled “Athlete’s Diary”.

In the world of Latvian cycling there are many untold stories, and unfortunately the number of books written about this sport remains relatively small. Although the names of some athletes appear in books, on social media and in other sources, they are often mentioned only briefly, without a deeper insight into their lives and sporting careers.

Old newspapers contain far more detailed and fascinating accounts, but these publications are usually stored in archives and are difficult to access. In today’s fast-paced world, where people are accustomed to quick and easily accessible information, few are willing to spend time in archives and libraries searching for valuable material hidden in dust-covered books, newspapers and magazines.

Within this section, on the association’s Facebook page as well as on our newly created Instagram profile, we will share information about athletes who represented the sport of cycling — including their names and surnames, publishing several photographs donated to the association by the athletes themselves, along with short descriptive texts.

We believe that by sharing this type of information and making it accessible to a wider audience, we will help foster interest in cycling as a sport, while also honouring those whose names and achievements have long been forgotten.

The first featured athlete in this section – Jānis Deisons.
