With deep regret, we announce that on August 13, 2025, at the age of 95, our association member Edgars Račis has passed away.
Edgars devoted the greater part of his life to cycling. At just 15 years of age, he began working at the bicycle factory “Sarkanā Zvaigzne” as a bicycle assembler.
He was active in touring clubs as a leader of cycling tour groups, organizing trips with like-minded enthusiasts, including journeys to Georgia, Armenia, and the Pamir Mountains.
Edgars rode his bicycle almost every day – covering up to 30 kilometers daily, with the goal of reaching at least 1,000 kilometers per month. He actively participated in cycling events organized throughout Latvia.
As he himself liked to say:
“You must not let your joints rust. Once you ride, nothing hurts – sleep and appetite improve. Sometimes you have to push yourself, but after the ride there is always a good feeling and satisfaction. It is especially important to stay active as you grow older. Some people walk dogs, but my dog is my bicycle.”
We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends. We will keep the memory of Edgars Račis alive.
